Laikipia is a huge plateau north west of Mount Kenya. Managed by communities and private ranch owners to create a large conservation area that provides livelihoods too many. The numbers of animals in Laikipia is one of the largest in Kenya and the most diverse. A number of ranches have become active breeding sanctuaries of the rhinoceros and chimpanzees.

Laikipia has 28 places to stay and plenty to offer other than game viewing. Popular are trekking, fly fishing, heli-camping, horse riding, mountain biking and climbing.

Laikipia is just over 200 km drive form Nairobi and will take about 6 hours. Regular flights operate to Lewa Downs and most ranches have private air strips for air charters.
